Bulgarian Mafia

In 1989, after the fall of the Soviet Unit and the communism system, Bulgaria started a period of transition in order to establish a democratic rule.Like the other post-socialist regimes in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria found the transition to capitalism rather painful and not as easy as expected. The anti-Communist Union of Democratic Forces sat on the driver seat and steered the wheel.
Between 1991 and 1992 this politcal party initiated privatization of agricultural land, properties and industry issuing shares in government enterprises to all citizens, but these were accompanied by massive unemployment as industries were no longer tightened to the broken Comecon (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance) and failed in competition of the global market which caused negative effect for Bulgaria and her participation to new regional or world trade organizations.

The period of transition was a golden oportunity for some politicans to give away the most profitable businesses in the hands of small group of people.This group of people used this businesses to launder money and to smuggle drugs and weapons from South America and the other Balkan countries - this was the rise of the Bulgarian Mafia.
Much of the post-Communist Bulgarian mafia originates from the professional sportsmen and especially the wrestlers of the Communist period (1944–1989). The Iliev brothers, Krasimir Marinov and Iliya Pavlov were all students of the school for future sports champions called: "Olympic Hopes".

In post-1990 Bulgaria, the word "mug" was used for describing a mafia man.The image of the Bulgarian "mug", including a sturdy muscular build, a black suit, sunglasses, a shaved head, and golden jewellery, became synonymous with the so-called Bulgarian "transition".These wrestlers and boxers were also known to own expensive cars with license plates with double numbers so that strangers would recognize their status as elite criminals.
The wrestlers controlled the Bulgarian business and worked for the Bulgarian politicans,so the word "businessman" was something dirty back in the day.



In 1989 Bulgaria fell into deep mental crisis which caused damage to the youths.Defenition as "good and bad" and "fair and unfair", were no longer seen in the character of the children who grown up in times of battle for business, contract killings, human trafficking and drug smuggle.
The generation of the "transition" witnessed all of the public assassinations, disputes and fights which occurred day and night.The sixteen years old boys wanted to be the next petrol bosses, drug lords or "mugs".
Due to this barbarian scenes and brutal outdoor killings many parents have decided to send their sons and daughters in Western Europe, Australia and USA where they can be provided with excellent education and opportunity to develop and create good careers without being troubled with extortions and murder threats.The 1989-2006 generation led to social collapse in Bulgaria where the kids wanted to be criminals and to propagate illegal substances, gain profit, have a sexual intercourse with inexpensive harlots and consume narcotic cigarettes. This hasn't changed even nowadays where the same group of kids emigrated all over the world, particaly the big cities in USA such as Los Santos, Chicago, New York and so on, trying to live the American dream and gain wealth while living in the poorest neighborhoods in those cities.



The community situated inbetween Geller Road and Sokolov Avenue in the area of Pershing Square is known for its predominantly populance of Bulgarian teenagers and adults. They have settled down there instigated by various reasons. Some of them have won scholarships and attend the local high-school while others are employeed in part-time jobs and are trying to tie both ends with hard work.
However, a small group was formed by Bulgarian trouble behaviour teenagers. Some of them used to practice wrestling or boxing back in their motherland, others were part of small hooligan groups who attends soccer games and fight over some clubs colors. These youths are doing nothing besides burning marijuana and involving themself in trouble. Their goal in life is to make money by any means.
